Lessons have been assigned to them based on their diagnostic test results both in Math and Reading. Within each lesson are brain break games. The district is pushing a goal of 45 minutes per week on Online Lessons in ELA and 45 minutes per week in Math to close the gaps found in the diagnostic. Math and ELA are providing some of that time during the week, but not all.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics editor and design program developed and marketed by Adobe Inc. Originally designed for the Apple Macintosh, development of Adobe Illustrator began in 1985.  ​

HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED:  You will practice different tools and techniques and gradually show your success!

Envelope Distort Challenge


We need to grab a file first!

Click the Ai Image on the left!

Are you struggling to make your shapes?

Click the Ai Image on the left!

It includes shapes to help! (But follow the instructions below for the text!)

Left click the DOWNLOAD button on the top right

This will save the file to your Arts and Media folder!

Quick Tip! After you click the download button, notice on the top right corner the download should appear...simply click the file to open!

SAVE (as) YOUR DOCUMENT!

Shortcut: Shift + Ctrl + S

(or File: SAVE AS)


Save to YOUR COMPUTER!

Click the Save on Your Computer button

On the left click THIS PC

Select Desktop

Select Arts and Media Folder

Name the document: 

"First Name Last Name Distort 1"

Click SAVE

Illustrator OPTIONS...

Version: Illustrator 2020

click OK

The shortcut to zoom to one artboard is

Let's Learn to distort text with an object!

Zoom to Artboard 1 (Think Happy Thoughts)

Make a circle

With the Ellipse tool

Hold the shift key down and make a circle

In the Properties Panel

Make the fill: NONE

Stroke 1 pt (black)

Pen tool

With thePen tool

Draw a curved line (see left)

Tip: click and pull to make the curve!

Press ESC to end the path

Stroke

in the properties panel, change the stroke to 10 pt

Convert the path

With the line still selected...

Click OBJECT (top menu)

PATH> OUTLINE STROKE

This makes the line an object!

Duplicate the new object

With the Select tool

Hold the ALT key down

Click and Pull the object down (see left)

Select the 3 shapes

With the Select tool

Draw an imaginary box around the circle and 2 curved shapes to select them!

With the Shapebuilder tool

HOLD THE ALT KEY DOWN

Click on each piece of the curved shape

TIP: each piece should highlight...when you click they will disappear

Now you should have a 3 piece circle!


Text tool

With the Text Tool

Click once in the white area of the Artboard and type THINK in all caps

Click again and type HAPPY in all caps

Click again and type THOUGHTS! in all caps

Change the font

With the Select Tool

Select the 3 words (drag an imaginary box around them or hold the shift key and select each one

Change the font to Kids Magazine (the one we just installed!)

Send to back

With the words still selected...

Click the Object menu (top)

Arrange> Send to Back

Move each word to the piece of the circle

Move each word over to the center of each piece of the circle (see left)

Note: the words are technically behind the shapes

Hold down the shift key and select the top piece of the circle and with word THINK

Click the Object menu (top)

Envelope Distort> Make with Top Object


The shortcut to Make with Top Object...

Now...

Hold down the shift key and select the middle piece of the circle and with word HAPPY

Press Alt + Ctrl + C

Hold down the shift key and select the bottom piece of the circle and with word THOUGHTS!

Press Alt + Ctrl + C

Now...

The assignment!

Each artboard

There is a "quote" on each of the 12 artboards

Following the envelope Distort  instructions we just completed...make each quote distorted!

You may....

Use the same circle divided into 3 pieces

or use another shape!

Tip: Make sure to divide the shape into enough pieces for the words 

(3 words= 3 pieces)

SHOW ME ON YOUR SCREEN!!

Do not close Illustrator until your work is verified!!!

50 Points possible! Due December 6!!!
