Lessons have been assigned to them based on their diagnostic test results both in Math and Reading. Within each lesson are brain break games. The district is pushing a goal of 45 minutes per week on Online Lessons in ELA and 45 minutes per week in Math to close the gaps found in the diagnostic. Math and ELA are providing some of that time during the week, but not all.

What you NEED to know!!!!

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Adobe Photoshop

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Adobe Photoshop, computer application software used to edit and manipulate digital images. Photoshop was developed in 1987 by the American brothers Thomas and John Knoll, who sold the distribution license to Adobe Systems Incorporated in 1988.  ​

HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED:  You will practice different tools and techniques and gradually show your success!

Simple selections

Learn how to make geometric, free-form, and straight-edged selections with the marquee and lasso tools.

We need to grab a file first!

Click the Ps Image on the left!

Left click the DOWNLOAD button on the top right

This will save the file to your Arts & Media folder!

Quick Tip! After you click the download button, notice on the top right corner the download should appear...simply click the file to open!

SAVE (as) YOUR DOCUMENT!

Shortcut: Shift + Ctrl + S

(or File: SAVE AS)


Save to YOUR COMPUTER!

Click the Save on Your Computer button

On the left click THIS PC

Select Desktop

Select Arts and Media Folder

Name the document: 

"First Name Last Name SELECT"

Click SAVE

Learning selection basics

Use a selection to edit part of an image.

Rectangular and square selections

The Rectangular Marquee tool is used to make rectangular and square selections.

Select the Rectangular Marquee tool in the Tools panel. Click and drag to make a rectangular selection.

If you want a square selection, press the Shift key as you’re dragging.

YOUR TASK:

Using the Rectangular Marquee tool

Click and pull a rectangle on the small right picture frame...selecting just the photo in the frame

Layers:

Go to the bottom of the Layers panel and click the Create New Fill or Adjustment Icon

Choose Solid Color

Color Picker:

Now you can select a color from the other picture (notice your cursor is now the eyedropper)

Click on a BLUE color

Click OK

You will see that this created a new colors fill layer in the layers panel

Tint

Now with the color fill layer selected, go to the Blend mode pull down menu...

Click and select COLOR

Oval and circular selections

The Elliptical Marquee tool is for making oval and circular selections.

Select the Elliptical Marquee tool in the Tools panel. Click and drag to start a selection. With your finger still down on the mouse/trackpad, press the Space bar on the keyboard too; then push the selection back to the edge of the object you want to select. With your finger still down on the mouse/trackpad, release your finger from the Space bar only, and continue to drag out an oval selection.

Oval and circular selections

If you want a circular selection, press the Shift key too, as you’re dragging. Release your finger from the mouse/trackpad and then from the Shift key.

After you make a selection, you can re-position it by clicking inside the marching ants with a selection tool and dragging. You also can re-shape the selection by choosing Select > Transform Selection and dragging any of the edges or corners of the boundary.

YOUR TASK:

Using the Elliptical Marquee tool

Click on any edge of the Round wood object and start to drag creating an oval selection.

Keeping you finger pressed on the mouse button, press the SPACE BAR on your keyboard to move the selection to the correct edge. Release the space bar and continue to draw your circle to match the wooden object.

You may need to do this a few times to get it right!

Layers:

Go to the bottom of the Layers panel and click the Create New Fill or Adjustment Icon

Choose Vibrance

In the Vibrance Panel:

Move the Vibrance slider right to subtly increase the vibrancy of the objects color.

Free-form selections

The Lasso tool is for making free-form selections.

Select the Lasso tool in the Tools panel. Click and drag to make a free-form selection. When you’re back near the beginning, release your finger from the mouse/trackpad to close the selection.

YOUR TASK:

Using the Lasso tool

Click and drag on the inside edge of the sculpture (on the table on top of the books)

Layers:

Go to the bottom of the Layers panel and click the Create New Fill or Adjustment Icon

Choose Brightness/Contrast

In the Brightness/Contrast Panel:

Move the Brightness slider right to brighten up the selected section of the item.

Straight-edged selections

The Polygonal Lasso tool is used to make straight-edged segments of a selection. It comes in handy to select a star, a triangle, or other objects with a straight edge.

Select the Polygonal Lasso tool in the Tools panel. Click at the beginning of a straight edge, and then release your finger from the mouse. Without pressing down on the mouse/trackpad, move to the end of that straight edge and click to attach the selection. Repeat around the area you want to select. When you’re back at the beginning and a small circle appears, click to close the selection.

To release the Polygonal Lasso tool , press the Escape key.

YOUR TASK:

Using the Polygonal Lasso tool

Click and drag on the inside edge of the sculpture (on the table on top of the books)

Using this tool

Click on the top point of the STAR

Let go and pull to the next corner of the star and so on. Continue around the entire star

Click the small circle to connect and close the selection

Layers:

Go to the bottom of the Layers panel and click the Create New Fill or Adjustment Icon

Choose Solid Color

Color Picker:

Now you can select a color from the other picture (notice your cursor is now the eyedropper)

Click on a BLUE color

Click OK

Tint

Now with the color fill layer selected, go to the Blend mode pull down menu...

Click and select COLOR

Remember! Because we made adjustments to our layers our original photo remains intact!

Do not close PHOTOSHOP until your work is verified!!!
