Lessons have been assigned to them based on their diagnostic test results both in Math and Reading. Within each lesson are brain break games. The district is pushing a goal of 45 minutes per week on Online Lessons in ELA and 45 minutes per week in Math to close the gaps found in the diagnostic. Math and ELA are providing some of that time during the week, but not all.

Get to know Photoshop!

What you NEED to know!!!!

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Adobe Photoshop

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Adobe Photoshop, computer application software used to edit and manipulate digital images. Photoshop was developed in 1987 by the American brothers Thomas and John Knoll, who sold the distribution license to Adobe Systems Incorporated in 1988.

HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED:  You will practice different tools and techniques and gradually show your success!

Combining Images in Adobe Photoshop

One of the most powerful aspects of Adobe Photoshop is its ability to combine images to form imaginative composites.

Add Texture to an Image

Create a textured look with blend modes.

We need to grab a file first!

Click the Ps Image on the left!

Left click the DOWNLOAD button on the top right

This will save the file to your Arts & Media folder!

Quick Tip! After you click the download button, notice on the top right corner the download should appear...simply click the file to open!

SAVE (as) YOUR DOCUMENT!

Shortcut: Shift + Ctrl + S

(or File: SAVE AS)

Save to YOUR COMPUTER!

Click the Save on Your Computer button

On the left click THIS PC

Select Desktop

Select Arts and Media Folder

Name the document:

"First Name Last Name BLEND2"

Click SAVE

Add texture to an Image

Create a textured look with blend modes

With the file open, make sure you have selected the TEXTURE layer

(Look for the Blend Mode pull down...it should read NORMAL)

Using the Blend Mode dropdown in the Layers panel, try each different settings

Photoshop with blend the textures and colors in the TEXTURES layer with the background layer (or whatever layer is underneath)

SHORTCUT!

Select the Move tool (technically you aren't moving anything, it is just the tool this will work with)

To cycle through blend modes, hold down the SHIFT +key on the keyboard as you press the PLUS (+) key on the keyboard

What happens?

OPACITY

If the effect is too strong, you can adjust the textures opacity in the Layers Panel

Try adjusting the opacity!

TRY ALL THE BLENDS

Now try each blend until you match the image to the left!

To get credit you must figure out which Blend this is!

Press Ctrl + S to SAVE!!! Do this often!

SHOW ME ON YOUR SCREEN!!

Do NOT close PHOTOSHOP!!!

Replace a background using a layer mask

Use a layer mask to replace one background with another.

2. We need to grab a file first!

Click the Ps Image on the left!

Left click the DOWNLOAD button on the top right

This will save the file to your Arts & Media folder!

SAVE (as) YOUR DOCUMENT!

Shortcut: Shift + Ctrl + S

(or File: SAVE AS)

Save to YOUR COMPUTER!

Click the Save on Your Computer button

On the left click THIS PC

Select Desktop

Select Arts and Media Folder

Name the document:

"First Name Last Name PENCIL"

Click SAVE

Moving layers

In the file there are 2 layers. We need the "Replace Background" layer to be on the bottom

But we can't do this because the Background layer is a LOCKED layer

Unlocking the Background Layer

Double (Left) click the locked Background layer and give it a new name

In the dialog box, rename the layer PENCIL

Click OK

Notice the layer is no longer locked and has a new name

Press Ctrl + S to SAVE!!! Do this often!

Move the layer

Now you can click and pull the Replace Background layer BELOW the Pencil layer

Release your mouse when you see the double line below the Pencil layer

Quick Selection

Select the PENCIL layer in the layers panel

Then go select the Quick Selection Tool

Click and drag over the background (behind the pencil) to select it

OR!

Click Select>Select Subject!

Instead of using the Quick Selection tool, we could have clicked Select>Subject!

(there are many ways to do things in Photoshop!!!)

Create a new Layer Mask...

Now go to the Layers Panel and click the Add Layer Mask Icon

Remember, where the layer mask is black, it hides the content

"Black conceals, White reveals"

Notice the white keyline around the MASK...that means the MASK is selected!

Fine tuning a Mask

Now, with the layer mask still selected, go to the SELECT menu (top) and choose Select and Mask

That opens the image with the mask applied here in the special select and mask space (just like when we were fine tuning a selection)

How we view...

In the View Mode area under Properties click the dropdown menu

Select ON LAYERS

On Layers allows us to see exactly how the pencil will look against the background layer as we adjust the mask

Global refinements

When you are happy with the refinement, scroll down

Under OUTPUT SETTINGS:

Press Ctrl + S to SAVE!!! Do this often!

What does the Link Icon in between mean?

Notice there is a LINK icon between the Image thumbnail and the Layer Mask thumbnail in the Layer Panel on the Pencil layer?

That means that if we were to move the Pencil Layer the Layer mask would move with it...

Move the Pencil Layer

Select the MOVE TOOL

Click on the Pencil (in the image not the layer) and drag it to the right

Press Ctrl + S to SAVE!!! Do this often!

SHOW ME ON YOUR SCREEN!!

Do NOT close PHOTOSHOP until your work is verified!!!

To get credit!

Raise your hand and show me on your screen! Then...

Click UPLOAD FROM THIS DEVICE

Find the PHOTOSHOP  files (there are 2 files!) we were just working on!

REMEMBER! YOU ARE ATTACHING THE Photoshop File!

DO NOT EXPORT THE FILES!!!!

NOTE: There MUST be TWO Adobe Photoshop files attached to get credit. Simply clicking TURN IN will not do!!!

25 Points possible (10 per file and 5 for correctly naming the files...see above)!

Due TODAY!!!

Please make sure past assignments were completed  and shared with me for credit!

Not sure? Check Atlas!!!

To save computer memory for other students using the computers....

We will CLOSE THE PROGRAM!

Click the X on the top right corner of Photoshop!
