Lessons have been assigned to them based on their diagnostic test results both in Math and Reading. Within each lesson are brain break games. The district is pushing a goal of 45 minutes per week on Online Lessons in ELA and 45 minutes per week in Math to close the gaps found in the diagnostic. Math and ELA are providing some of that time during the week, but not all.

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Adobe Illustrator Reshaping text!

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics editor and design program developed and marketed by Adobe Inc. 

What you will learn: Reshaping text!

HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED:  You will practice different tools and techniques and gradually show your success!

FORMATTING TEXT

Re-shape text in creative ways using outlines and the Direct Selection tool

Adobe Illustrator

We need to grab a FONT first!

Click the ICON left to download font!

Left click the DOWNLOAD button on the top right

This will save the file to your Arts & Media folder!

Quick Tip! After you click the download button, notice on the top right corner the download should appear...simply click the file to open!

Double click the font that downloaded!

Click INSTALL after the font is downloaded!

Open your Arts & Media Folder

Double click the downloaded font file! 

Click INSTALL on the top left!

FORMATTING TEXT

Let's get the Illustrator file now!

We need to grab a file first!

Click the Ai Image on the left!

Left click the DOWNLOAD button on the top right

This will save the file to your Arts & Media folder!

Quick Tip! After you click the download button, notice on the top right corner the download should appear...simply click the file to open!

If Missing fonts box appears...click activate fonts to sync the Adobe font to your computer. Click Close.

If this doesn't work we can just pick a different font

SAVE (as) YOUR DOCUMENT!

Shortcut: Shift + Ctrl + S

(or File: SAVE AS)

Save to YOUR COMPUTER!

Click the Save on Your Computer button

On the left click THIS PC

Select Desktop

Select Arts and Media Folder

Name the document: 

"First Name Last Name UNO"

Click SAVE

Illustrator OPTIONS...

Version: Illustrator 2020

click OK

With the document open...

Click on VIEW (on the top menu) and select Fit All in Window! Ctrl + 0

Turn on SMART GUIDES

Click VIEW

Click SMART GUIDES (Check mark should be next to smart guides)

Smart guides will help to easily align the letters with each other as we modify them. (They will show up as Magenta lines)

First...

We are going the make the top text look like the bottom text!

With the Selection Tool selected

Drag across all of the text on the top of the artboard to select it

This is text, which means you can change the font, size and other formatting options.

Edit to paths

Now to edit the text as if it were shapes we need to convert the text to vector paths

To do this:

Choose TYPE > CREATE OUTLINES or

Shortcut:

The text is now composed of shapes that you can edit!

(NOTE: they are GROUPED!)

Changing the O in UNO

Click away from the content to deselect, then click on the U in UNO to select the 'uno' group of shapes

Zoom in to it

Turn on SMART GUIDES

Click VIEW

Click SMART GUIDES (Check mark should be next to smart guides)

Smart guides will help to easily align the letters with each other as we modify them.

Direct Select tool

Select the Direct Select Tool

Drag across the entire top half of the O

Move the pointer over one of the anchor points you see, (you can tell which are selected because they are SOLID BLUE in color)

Click and drag a point up to ALIGN it to the top of the R (all of the blue points should move with it)



Pay attention to the magenta smart guides to help you align correctly! 

A magenta smart guide will appear at the top edge when it is aligned!

Changing 'NUM' in NUMER

Select the Select Tool and select NUMER

We need to move the letter independently and since these are now grouped shapes, we must ungroup them

Click the UNGROUP button toward the bottom of the Properties panel on the right

To deselect the letters, click in a blank area.

Now we can edit the letters independently!

Click the U (in NUM) and drag it straight down.

Magenta Smart Guides will appear when its aligned with its original position and with the U in UNO.

Move the N

Click the N (in NUM) and drag it right.

Once again Magenta Smart Guides will tell you when it's aligned.

Edit the M

Select the Direct Selection Tool

Drag across the bottom part of the 'm' to select the anchor points down there.

Remember we know what was selected because they are now blue anchor points.

Move the pointer over ONE of the selected anchor points and drag down, aligning with the bottom of the 'U'

Again, Magenta Smart Guides will show you when it is aligned properly.


Click in the blank space to deselect!

Select the Type tool (T)

Draw a paragraph text box

TYPE YOUR FIRST & LAST NAME!

Increase the font size!


SHOW ME ON YOUR SCREEN BEFORE CLOSING!!!

ASSIGNMENT! 

Due Friday, October 20...  Turn in through TEAMS!

Click UPLOAD FROM THIS DEVICE

Select DESKTOP (on the left)

Select your Arts and Media Folder

Find the First Name Last Name Uno.ai file and select it

Click OPEN

REMEMBER! YOU ARE ATTACHING THE Illustrator File! 

DO NOT EXPORT THE FILES!!!!

NOTE: There MUST be an Adobe Illustrator file attached to get credit. Simply clicking TURN IN will not do!!!

To save computer memory for other students using the computers....

We will CLOSE THE PROGRAM!
