Lessons have been assigned to them based on their diagnostic test results both in Math and Reading. Within each lesson are brain break games. The district is pushing a goal of 45 minutes per week on Online Lessons in ELA and 45 minutes per week in Math to close the gaps found in the diagnostic. Math and ELA are providing some of that time during the week, but not all.

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Adobe Illustrator

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics editor and design program developed and marketed by Adobe Inc. Originally designed for the Apple Macintosh, development of Adobe Illustrator began in 1985.  ​

HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED:  You will practice different tools and techniques and gradually show your success!

Adobe Illustrator

We need to grab a file first!

Click the Ai Image on the left!

Left click the DOWNLOAD button on the top right

This will save the file to your Arts & Media folder!

Quick Tip! After you click the download button, notice on the top right corner the download should appear...simply click the file to open!

SAVE (as) YOUR DOCUMENT!

Shortcut: Shift + Ctrl + S

(or File: SAVE AS)


Save to YOUR COMPUTER!

Click the Save on Your Computer button

On the left click THIS PC

Select Desktop

Select Arts and Media Folder

Name the document: 

"First Name Last Name SHAPES"

Click SAVE

Illustrator OPTIONS...

Version: Illustrator 2020

click OK

With the document open...

Click on VIEW (on the top menu) and select Fit Artboard in Window! ctrl + 0

Turn on SMART GUIDES

Click VIEW

Click SMART GUIDES (Check mark should be next to smart guides)

Smart guides will help to easily align the letters with each other as we modify them. (They will show up as Magenta lines)

Using the Shape Tools in the Tools pallet...

First...

ROW 1

For the SQUARE SHAPE...

Select the Rectangle tool (M)

Click and pull...HOLD DOWN THE SHIFT KEY... to make the SQUARE SHAPE

With the SELECT TOOL, hold down the SHIFT KEY and pull the handles to adjust! (below)

For the DIAMOND SHAPE...

Select the Rectangle tool (M)

Click and pull...HOLD DOWN THE SHIFT KEY... to make a SQUARE SHAPE

Double click on the ROTATE tool



In the Dialog box type 45...click OK







With the SELECT TOOL, hold down the SHIFT KEY and pull the handles to adjust!


For the RECTANGLE SHAPE...

Select the Rectangle tool (M)

Click and pull...to make a RECTANGLE SHAPE

For the SLANTED RECTANGLE SHAPE...

Select the Rectangle tool (M)

Click and pull...to make a RECTANGLE SHAPE

Start at the BOTTOM Left and end at the BOTTOM right

With the DIRECT SELECT TOOL

With the DIRECT SELECT TOOL

Click on the TOP LEFT HANDLE, HOLD THE SHIFT KEY DOWN, SELECT THE TOP RIGHT HANDLE

(Notice the two handles are blue while the other two are white...this means they are selected)

Use the RIGHT ARROW KEY on the keyboard to move those handles to the right until it matches!


For the ROUNDED RECTANGLE SHAPES...

Select the Rectangle tool (M)

Click and pull...to make a RECTANGLE SHAPE

Click and pull the WIDGET towards the center until the curve matches!

For the CURVES SHAPE...

Select the Rectangle tool (M)

Click and pull...to make a SQUARE SHAPE (from the TOP LEFT to the BOTTOM RIGHT)






Click once on the TOP RIGHT WIDGET (the Widget should look highlighted-ish)

Pull the WIDGET towards the center until the curve matches!






NOW...

Click once on the BOTTOM LEFT WIDGET (the Widget should look highlighted-ish)

Pull the WIDGET towards the center until the curve matches!


For the QUARTER CIRCLE SHAPE...

Select the Rectangle tool (M)

Click and pull...to make a SQUARE SHAPE (from the TOP LEFT to the BOTTOM RIGHT)





Click once on the BOTTOM LEFT WIDGET (the Widget should look highlighted-ish)

Pull the WIDGET towards the center until the curve matches!

ROW 2

For the CIRCLE SHAPE...

Select the Ellipse tool (L)

Click and pull...HOLD DOWN THE SHIFT KEY... to make the CIRCLE SHAPE

For the CIRCLE SHAPE with the Cut out...

Select the Ellipse tool (L)

Click and pull...HOLD DOWN THE SHIFT KEY... to make a CIRCLE SHAPE

Click and pull the WIDGET HANDLE to the left to match the shape

For the ELLIPSE SHAPE...

Select the Ellipse tool (L)

Click and pull to make an ELLIPSE SHAPE

For the Rotated ELLIPSE SHAPE...

Select the Ellipse tool (L)

Click and pull to make an ELLIPSE SHAPE





Using the ROTATE TOOL

Click and pull to Rotate the shape.

Use the SELECT TOOL to adjust

TIP! There is another way to rotate! 

HOVER YOUR MOUSE OVER ONE OF THE  HANDLES and wait to see a 2-sided arrow...click and pull to rotate!


For the TEARDROP SHAPE...

Select the Rectangle tool (M)

Click and pull...to make a SQUARE SHAPE (from the TOP RIGHT to the BOTTOM LEFT)





Click once on the TOP LEFT WIDGET (the Widget should look highlighted-ish)

Pull the WIDGET towards the center until the curve matches!





Click once on the BOTTOM LEFT WIDGET (the Widget should look highlighted-ish)

Pull the WIDGET towards the center until the curve matches!







Click once on the BOTTOM RIGHT WIDGET (the Widget should look highlighted-ish)

Pull the WIDGET towards the center until the curve matches!

ROW 3: POLYGONS

For the HEXAGON SHAPE...

Select the POLYGON tool

Place your mouse in the center of the shape

Hold down the ALT Key AND the SHIFT KEY...click and pull!

The shape should come from the CENTER and be straight!

If there aren't 6 sides see below!

For the OCTAGON SHAPE...

Select the POLYGON tool

Place your mouse in the center of the shape

Hold down the ALT Key AND the SHIFT KEY...click and pull!

The shape should come from the CENTER and be straight!

Look on the right side...click and pull the WIDGET down (or up) to decide how many sides

Hint: there are 8!

Do the same for the NEXT 3 Shapes!

Tip! the 3rd one needs the rounded edges like the rounded rectangle!

ROW 3: STARS

For the 1st STAR SHAPE...

Select the Star tool (L)

Click and pull...HOLD DOWN THE SHIFT KEY... to make the STAR SHAPE

The shape should build from the center

The SHIFT KEY is what keeps it straight!

For the 2nd STAR SHAPE...

Select the Star tool (L)

Click and pull...HOLD DOWN THE ALT AND SHIFT KEYS... to make the STAR SHAPE

The shape should build from the center

The SHIFT KEY is what keeps it straight!

The ALT KEY is what straightens the lines!

For the 3rd STAR SHAPE...

Select the Star tool (L)

There are 8 points...this one takes a bit of trial and error!


With the STAR TOOL, click once in the center of the star (don't pull)

Enter the following:

Radius 1: 0.77 in

Radius 2: 0.65 in

Points 8


Click OK

Radius 1 is the outside point

Radius 2 is the inside point


For the 4th STAR SHAPE...

Select the Star tool (L)

Count the points...this one takes a bit of trial and error!


With the STAR TOOL, click once in the center of the star (don't pull)

Enter the following:

Radius 1: 0.77 in

Radius 2: 0.65 in

Points ? (count them!)

Click OK

For the LAST STAR SHAPE...

Select the Star tool (L)

Count the points...this one takes a bit of trial and error!


With the STAR TOOL, click once in the center of the star (don't pull)


NOW IT'S YOUR TURN TO FIGURE OUT THE RADIUS for each!


Click OK

NOW...

SHOW ME ON YOUR SCREEN!!

Do not close Illustrator until your work is verified!!!

We will turn this in thru TEAMS  Tomorrow!
