Lessons have been assigned to them based on their diagnostic test results both in Math and Reading. Within each lesson are brain break games. The district is pushing a goal of 45 minutes per week on Online Lessons in ELA and 45 minutes per week in Math to close the gaps found in the diagnostic. Math and ELA are providing some of that time during the week, but not all.

Click the Save on Your Computer button

On the left click THIS PC

Select Desktop

Name the document:

"First Name Last Name Line Text"

Illustrator OPTIONS...

Version: Illustrator 2020

click OK

With the document open...

Click on VIEW (on the top menu) and select Fit All in Window! Ctrl + 0

Select the Type tool

In a blank area on the right artboard (white) simply click to add some text.

After you click, a small line of text should appear.

This type of text is called POINT TYPE and is typically used for creating a headline on a poster or a line of text for a logo.

The text you see is placeholder text (Lorem Ipsum)

With the text still selected, type "designs"

Tip! To ZOOM in, click view...Zoom in or press Ctrl + on the keyboard

Moving and re-sizing type etc

Select the Selection tool

Notice the text now has anchor points

Come to a corner anchor point on the box and drag.

Notice you are stretching both the box and the text inside! This can be useful when you are trying to stretch your text in different ways.

To undo what you just did:

To type text...

Double left click on the text and change it to "designs".

(Illustrator will switch to the Type tool and enter a blinking cursor where you clicked.)

Click the cursor after the word designs and add "made simple"

Note: if you were to keep typing right now, the text would continue in a single line unless you press Return or Enter to create a new paragraph...This is because it is "point type" with no bounding box!

Properties Panel

Select the Selection tool

Look at the properties panel to the right of the document.

TIP: If you don't see the Properties panel, click window from the top menu and select PROPERTIES and the panel should pop up

Let's make the text a little smaller:

In the Properties panel, click the arrow to the left of the Font Size to make the size 11 pt. (you can also type 11 in the box)

Let's move the text (etc)

Click on VIEW (on the top menu) and select Fit All in Window! (Or press Ctrl + Alt+ 0)

With the Selection tool selected...

Move the pointer over the text. Click and hold/pull to drag the text to the lower right of the left (black) artboard

TIP: Do NOT pull on the anchor points!

Change the color of the text...

Since the color of the text is dark and so is the artboard, we need to change the color of the text so it is readable.

With the text still selected, in the Properties panel click the Fill color. (should be on Swatches option)

Select the light green color  (with the little white triangle...this is a Global color). The text should be readable now!

PARAGRAPHS OF TEXT!

Select the Type tool

Click and drag to create a Paragraph box on the white artboard.

With the placeholder text still selected, type in some text:

"Let us market your business. Quick, simple, and elegant designs all made in house by our top designers."

Move the text in to position...

Select the Select tool

Click and drag the text into position under the header.

If you want to resize the type area to fit better, click and pull on one of the anchor points.

You will notice the text wraps to adjust to fit the box but does NOT scale.

If you make the box too small you will notice a small red + letting you know there is more text in the box. This is called OVERSET text.

FORMATTING TEXT

Select the Type tool

In a blank area of the right (white) document, click and drag to create an area of text.

Type YOUR Name (First and last)

Formatting

This text needs some formatting help!

It needs to be larger and have a different font applied etc.

Select the text with the TYPE tool

Click and drag across all the text to select it

Properties Panel...

At the bottom right in the Properties panel, click the Font Family box

The text you typed should show as sample text to easily preview a font on the text.

This is called WYSIWYG (wizzywig)...What you see is what you get!

You may choose from the fonts currently installed or click Find More to install Adobe fonts...

FIND A SANS SERIF FONT!

Choose a Sans Serif Font...

Scroll through the font list to find a SANS SERIF font like Lato

Now make the font size 24 pt

If some of the text is hidden, select the Selection tool and pull and anchor point to show all of the text

Move the text in to position...

Select the Select tool

Click and drag the text into position above 'designs made simple'

Change the color...

With the text still selected with the select tool...

In the Properties panel click the Fill color. (should be on Swatches option)
