The district is pushing a goal of 45 minutes per week on Online Lessons in ELA and 45 minutes per week in Math to close the gaps found in the diagnostic. Math and ELA are providing some of that time during the week, but not all.

What you NEED to know!!!!

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Adobe Photoshop

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Adobe Photoshop, computer application software used to edit and manipulate digital images. Photoshop was developed in 1987 by the American brothers Thomas and John Knoll, who sold the distribution license to Adobe Systems Incorporated in 1988.  ​

HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED:  You will practice different tools and techniques and gradually show your success!

(yes it is correct LOL)

We need to grab a file first!

Click the Ps Image on the left!

Left click the DOWNLOAD button on the top right

This will save the file to your Arts & Media folder!

Quick Tip! After you click the download button, notice on the top right corner the download should appear...simply click the file to open!

SAVE (as) YOUR DOCUMENT!

Shortcut: Shift + Ctrl + S

(or File: SAVE AS)


Save to YOUR COMPUTER!

Click the Save on Your Computer button

On the left click THIS PC

Select Desktop

Select Arts and Media Folder

Name the document: 

"First Name Last Name VALENTINE"

Click SAVE

Cut out your object. Use the Object Selection Tool

Select the Young woman layer 

Choose the Object Selection tool. Select the model by clicking once on the woman.

Then click Select Subject > Select and Mask to open a workspace where you can refine the selection.

Clean up your selection.

The Select and Mask workspace has multiple View Modes. Choose the one that allows you to best see your selection as you work (like On Layers). You should now see the Roses Layer behind the model.

Then, click Refine Hair (at the top) to include the detailed edges of the model’s hair in the selection...it will seem subtle!

Click OK to exit Select and Mask workspace mode.

Press Ctrl + S to SAVE!!! Do this often!


Cut it out.

With the Young Woman layer selected, click the Add Layer Mask button at the bottom of the Layers panel.

Adding Text

With the Horizontal Type Tool. Click and add the word VALENTINE (in all caps)

Layer Filter

First, move the VALENTINE text layer BELOW the Young Woman layer

The word should be placed somewhat like above

Layer Style (make sure the VALENTINE text layer is selected)

Click Layer (on top)> Layer Style > Drop Shadow

The word should be placed somewhat like above

Settings (in the Drop Shadow Dialog box)

Opacity: 65%; Angle 132; Distance 15 px; Spread: 25 % and Size: 25px

Click OK

Fill

In the Layers Panel, make the fill 0%

Make the roses pink!

Select the Roses layer

Select the Create New Fill or Adjustment Layer Icon on the bottom of the Layers Panel

Select Solid Color

Choose a Pink color

Click OK

In the Layers Panel, Click on the Blend drop down (it reads Normal) and select COLOR

Give the model some depth

Select the Young woman layer again

Click the Add a Layer Style Icon (Fx) on the bottom of the Layers Panel

Select Drop Shadow

(Note: this is yet another way to add a Layer Style!)

Beyond the tutorial...

With the Quick Selection tool, (and the Young Woman layer selected) try to select just her pink sweater.

Remember, if you select more than her sweater click the MINUS tool at the top to deselect parts you do not want selected!

Change the color of her sweater...

Select the Create New Fill or Adjustment Layer Icon on the bottom of the Layers Panel

Select Solid Color

Choose a different color

Click OK

In the Layers Panel, Click on the Blend drop down (it reads Normal) and select COLOR

Link Layers

Select the Color Fill 2 Layer AND the Young Woman Layer (Hold the shift Key down)

Click the MENU icon to the right on the Layers Panel

Hint: It looks like 4 lines!

Select LINK LAYERS

Move the Model 

With the Move Tool, you can now move the Model (with the filters)

SHOW ME ON YOUR SCREEN!!

Do NOT close PHOTOSHOP until your work is verified!!!

To get credit!

Raise your hand and show me on your screen! Then...

Click UPLOAD FROM THIS DEVICE

Find the PHOTOSHOP  file we were just working on!


REMEMBER! YOU ARE ATTACHING THE Photoshop File! 

DO NOT EXPORT THE FILES!!!!

NOTE: There MUST be an Adobe Photoshop file attached to get credit. Simply clicking TURN IN will not do!!!
