Lessons have been assigned to them based on their diagnostic test results both in Math and Reading. Within each lesson are brain break games. The district is pushing a goal of 45 minutes per week on Online Lessons in ELA and 45 minutes per week in Math to close the gaps found in the diagnostic. Math and ELA are providing some of that time during the week, but not all.

WHAT IS ILLUSTRATOR?

What you NEED to know!!!!

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Adobe Illustrator Reshaping text

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics editor and design program developed and marketed by Adobe Inc.

What you will learn: Reshaping text!

HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED:  You will practice different tools and techniques and gradually show your success!

FORMATTING TEXT

Like our last file, we will be reshaping our own names today!

Adobe Illustrator

We need to grab a file first!

Click the Ai Image on the left!

Left click the DOWNLOAD button on the top right

This will save the file to your Arts & Media folder!

Quick Tip! After you click the download button, notice on the top right corner the download should appear...simply click the file to open!

If missing fonts box appears...click activate fonts to sync the Adobe font to your computer. Click Close after they are activated.

If this doesn't work we can just pick a different font

SAVE (as) YOUR DOCUMENT!

Shortcut: Shift + Ctrl + S

(or File: SAVE AS)

Save to YOUR COMPUTER!

Click the Save on Your Computer button

On the left click THIS PC

Select Desktop

Select Arts and Media Folder

Name the document:

"First Name Last Name My Name"

Click SAVE

Illustrator OPTIONS...

Version: Illustrator 2020

click OK

With the document open...

Click on VIEW (on the top menu) and select Fit All in Window! Ctrl + 0

Turn on SMART GUIDES

Click VIEW

Click SMART GUIDES (Check mark should be next to smart guides)

Smart guides will help to easily align the letters with each other as we modify them. (They will show up as Magenta lines)

THE END GOAL...

Your name should fit into a box interestingly!

(and we will be using these files in the future!!!)

First Name...

With the Type Tool selected

Drag across FIRST NAME and type YOUR first name!

Next...Last Name

With the Type Tool selected

Drag across LAST NAME and type YOUR last name!

Convert to Paths...

With the Selection Tool selected

To do this:

Select the text (both the first and last name)

Choose TYPE > CREATE OUTLINES or

Shortcut:

The text is now composed of shapes that you can edit!

Deciding what to change...

Let's look at your last name first...

Zoom in to it

Adjusting your Last name...

Select the Select Tool and select the LAST NAME

We need to move the letters independently and since these are now grouped shapes, we must ungroup them

Click the UNGROUP button toward the bottom of the Properties panel on the right

To deselect the letters, click in a blank area.

Moving letters...

Since this last name has SIX (6) remaining letters with nothing above...

I am selecting the last 3 letters (L, E and Z)

Than I am moving them below the 3 letters before them (under N, Z and A)

Lining them up to the left with the N (see the magenta Smart Guide line?)

Matching the width...

With the letters still selected, I am pulling on the right center anchor (of L, E and Z)   to line up the letters to match N Z A

(see the magenta Smart Guide line?)

Change the height...

Select the N, Z and A with the select tool

Pull up on the top center anchor point to match the height of the first name...

(see the magenta Smart Guide line?)

Ooopps...Did you mess up?

Use the UNDO short cut!

Change the height...

Select the  G O with the select tool

Pull down on the bottom center anchor point to match the bottom height of L E Z...

(see the magenta Smart Guide line?)

Changing the first name...

Select the Select Tool and select the First name

We need to move the letter independently and since these are now grouped shapes, we must ungroup them

Click the UNGROUP button toward the bottom of the Properties panel on the right

To deselect the letters, click in a blank area.

Now we can edit the letters independently!

Again, we must decide what to move.

In this example, I am selecting the C H R I S and dragging it above T O P H E R.

Lining it up to the left with the T.

(Note: I chose CHRIS because typically that is Christopher shortened)

(see the magenta Smart Guide line?)

Change the size...

With CHRIS still selected, I click and pull on the top right anchor to size.

Matching it to line up to the right with the A in NZA.

This time though, I pull up and right to make it more visually interesting (make it larger)

(see the magenta Smart Guide line?)

One more change...

Still using the select tool, I select the T O P H

Pull on the bottom center anchor to size.

Lining it up with the bottom G O and L E Z.

(see the magenta Smart Guide line?)

Finally...

Select the Selection Tool

Drag across ALL of the letters.

Or press:

to select All

GROUP...

Click the UNGROUP button toward the bottom of the Properties panel on the right

To deselect the letters, click in a blank area.

Or press:

to group
