Lessons have been assigned to them based on their diagnostic test results both in Math and Reading. Within each lesson are brain break games. The district is pushing a goal of 45 minutes per week on Online Lessons in ELA and 45 minutes per week in Math to close the gaps found in the diagnostic. Math and ELA are providing some of that time during the week, but not all.

What you NEED to know!!!!

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Adobe Illustrator

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics editor and design program developed and marketed by Adobe Inc. Originally designed for the Apple Macintosh, development of Adobe Illustrator began in 1985.  ​

HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED:  You will practice different tools and techniques and gradually show your success!

Using what we have learned!

Let's create a turkey for Thanksgiving!

Adobe Illustrator

We need to grab a file first!

Click the Ai Image on the left!

Left click the DOWNLOAD button on the top right

This will save the file to your Arts & Media folder!

Quick Tip! After you click the download button, notice on the top right corner the download should appear...simply click the file to open!

SAVE (as) YOUR DOCUMENT!

Shortcut: Shift + Ctrl + S

(or File: SAVE AS)


Save to YOUR COMPUTER!

Click the Save on Your Computer button

On the left click THIS PC

Select Desktop

Select Arts and Media Folder

Name the document: 

"First Name Last Name TURKEY"

Click SAVE

Illustrator OPTIONS...

Version: Illustrator 2020

click OK

With the document open...

Click on VIEW (on the top menu) and select Fit Artboard in Window! ctrl + 0

Turn on SMART GUIDES

Click VIEW

Click SMART GUIDES (Check mark should be next to smart guides)

Smart guides will help to easily align the letters with each other as we modify them. (They will show up as Magenta lines)

Today we will try to create a TURKEY!

First...

Start by selecting the BODY/HEAD layer

Select the BODY/HEAD Layer !






For the HEAD, use the Ellipse tool

Click and pull...HOLD DOWN THE SHIFT KEY... to make the CIRCLE SHAPE


For the BODY, use the PEN TOOL to draw the shape!

Click and pull...to draw the shape with the PEN TOOL

Complete the body by closing the shape



With the SELECT TOOL, hold down the SHIFT KEY and pull the handles to adjust!


LOCK THE BODY/HEAD layer!

Press Ctrl + S to SAVE!!! Do this often!


Select the Eyes layer...

Turn the EYES Layer ON!

For the EYES, use the Ellipse tool

First draw the OUTSIDE of the eye...then the pupils!

Click and pull...HOLD DOWN THE SHIFT KEY... to make the CIRCLE SHAPE


LOCK THE EYES layer!


Select the Comb and Snood layer...

Turn the Comb and Snood Layer ON!

For the Comb and Snood, use the PEN TOOL to draw the shapes!

Click and pull...to draw the shape with the PEN TOOL

Complete the shapes by closing the shape (connect end to end!)



With the SELECT TOOL, hold down the SHIFT KEY and pull the handles to adjust!


LOCK THE Comb and Snood layer!

Press Ctrl + S to SAVE!!! Do this often!


Select the Beak layer...

Turn the BEAK Layer ON!

For the BEAK, use the POLYGON tool

Place your mouse in the center of the shape

Hold down the ALT Key AND the SHIFT KEY...click and pull!

The shape should come from the CENTER and be straight!

Look on the right side...click and pull the WIDGET down (or up) to decide how many sides

Hint: there are 3 for a triangle!

Pull on the WIDGET to round the edges!

Using the ROTATE TOOL

With your TRIANGLE still selected, double click the ROTATE TOOL to bring up the dialog box

Enter 180 for the Angle and click OK!

With the SELECT TOOL, hold down the SHIFT KEY and pull the handles to adjust!

LOCK the BEAK layer!

Press Ctrl + S to SAVE!!! Do this often!


Select the FEATHERS layer...(Ctrl + 0 to zoom out!)

Turn the FEATHERS Layer ON! 

TURN OFF THE OTHER LAYERS (Except Original)

For the FEATHERS, use the RECTANGLE tool









Hold the SHIFT KEY down

Click and pull...to make a SQUARE SHAPE (from the TOP LEFT to the BOTTOM RIGHT)


TIP! "Ctrl +" zooms into the item selected!

Click once on the TOP RIGHT WIDGET (the Widget should look highlighted-ish)

Pull the WIDGET towards the center!





NOW...

Click once on the BOTTOM LEFT WIDGET (the Widget should look highlighted-ish)

Pull the WIDGET towards the center until the curve matches (Left)!


Using the ROTATE TOOL

With your shape still selected, double click the ROTATE TOOL to bring up the dialog box


Enter  45 for the angle and click ok

Use the SELECT tool to adjust and  move into place (this is the CENTER feather!)

Press Ctrl + S to SAVE!!! Do this often!


Now we are going to REPEAT...

Click on the OBJECT Tab (on the Top)

Then REPEAT

Then RADIAL

Pull the WIDGET on the right up or down until there are 8 Feathers!

Click the OBJECT tab again and select EXPAND




Make sure OBJECT and FILL are selected and click OK!

Press Ctrl + S to SAVE!!! Do this often!


Ungroup the Feathers!

Click The OBJECT tab (Again)

Select UNGROUP! 

(Shift + Ctrl+ G)

With the SELECT TOOL...click on the 3 bottom feathers and DELETE them!







Select ALL (Ctrl + A) and GROUP (Ctrl + G) the Remaining Feathers...


Hold the SHIFT KEY DOWN and resize if needed

Turn ALL LAYERS ON and UNOCK!

Turn OFF ORIGINAL Layer

With the SELECT TOOL...

With the SELECT TOOL, Click on each shape to add a fill color! 








When done, select ALL (Ctrl + A) and make the STROKE NONE!


EXTRA...

Press Ctrl + S to SAVE!!! Do this often!


SHOW ME ON YOUR SCREEN!!

Do not close Illustrator until your work is verified!!!

We will turn this in thru TEAMS!

To get credit!

Raise your hand and show me on your screen! Then...

Click UPLOAD FROM THIS DEVICE

REMEMBER! YOU ARE ATTACHING THE Illustrator File! 

DO NOT EXPORT THE FILES!!!!

NOTE: There MUST be an Adobe Illustrator file attached to get credit. Simply clicking TURN IN will not do!!!

Due TODAY!!!

To save computer memory for other students using the computers....

We will CLOSE THE PROGRAM! 

Click the X on the top right corner of Illustrator!
