WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics editor and design program developed and marketed by Adobe Inc. Originally designed for the Apple Macintosh, development of Adobe Illustrator began in 1985.

ILLUSTRATOR TOOL BAR
When you open a document in Illustrator, the default toolbar appears at the left of the screen. It includes a set of tools that you frequently need while working in Illustrator.

Before you work on your artwork, you need to select some or all of its elements. Select tools let you not just select, but move, rotate, scale, and transform your artwork, with varying degrees of precision.

On your desktop...you can double click (click click) the Illustrator icon (shown left) or
Click the windows icon on the bottom left of your screen and a list of programs will appear

With Illustrator open, you can open a file by choosing file in the menus above and then OPEN or OPEN on the Left hand side!

On the left of the screen that pops up, click Downloads
If Downloads does not show up, click (on the left) THIS PC...then on the right look for DOWNLOADS and (left) Double click (click click!)
SAVE (as) YOUR DOCUMENT!

Select Desktop

Name the document:

Click WINDOW>WORKSPACE>ESSENTIALS CLASSIC!
With the document open...
Click on VIEW (on the top menu) and select Fit Artboard in Window!
Selection Tool
The Selection tool lets you select, move, and resize an object or a group of objects.
Click the Selection tool or press V.
Click an object to select it.
Drag to move the selected object to a preferred location.
To change the size of the object, drag the edges of its bounding box.
To select multiple objects, Shift + Click objects one at a time or drag a marquee around multiple objects.
On you document, select V on the keyboard.
Click on ONE daisy...

To DESELECT,

Direct Selection Tool
The Direct Selection tool lets you select, move, or modify specific points or path segments in a path or a shape.
Click the Direct Selection tool or press A.
Select the object to view its anchor points and path segments.
Click an anchor point to select it, or Shift + Click to select multiple anchor points, path segments, or both.
Drag the anchor point, handle, or path segment to change the shape of your object.
On you document, click A on the keyboard.
NOW, Click on ONE daisy...
What happened?
Try selecting EDGE of the another daisy, do you see the white anchor points?
Click and pull on it. What happened?
Group Selection Tool
The Group Selection tool lets you select objects within groups without having to ungroup them.
Click the Group Selection tool .
Click an object within a group to select it. To select the group, click again.
Click further to select groups that are part of larger groups. Each additional click selects all the objects from the next level of the hierarchy.
With the Select tool selected, press Ctrl + A (selects all)
Then Ctrl + G to group!
NOW, Click on ONE circle inside one daisy...
What happened?
Click the same circle again.

Press V to get the Select Tool...
then to DESELECT,

Magic Wand Tool
The Magic Wand tool lets you select objects that have similar appearance attributes.
Click the Magic Wand tool or press Y.
Click the object containing the attributes you want. All objects with similar attributes are selected.
Double-click the Magic Wand tool to open the Magic Wand dialog and customize your attributes, like Fill color, Stroke color, Stroke weight, Opacity, or Blending mode.
To subtract from the selection, press and hold Alt (Windows) or Option (macOS) and click the object containing the attributes you want to subtract.
Press Y on the keyboard to select the Magic wand tool.
NOW, Click on ONE circle inside one daisy...

Click the white area of one daisy...

Press V to get the Select Tool...
then to DESELECT,

Lasso Tool
The Lasso tool lets you select objects, anchor points, or path segments by dragging along all or parts of the object.
Click the Lasso tool or press Q.
Drag to draw a shape around the elements you want to select. If you don't close the shape, Illustrator automatically connects the endpoints.
Press Q on the keyboard to select the lasso tool.
NOW, "draw" (click and pull) around one daisy...
What happened?
Note if you "touch" part of another object it will direct select that "part"
Press V to get the Select Tool...
then to DESELECT,

Artboard Tool
The Artboard tool lets you create multiple artboards of varied sizes to organize your artwork components.
Click the Artboard tool or press Shift + O to select it.
Drag on the canvas area to create an artboard.
To specify an artboard's dimensions in points, double-click the Artboard tool to view Artboard Options.
We will do this in a bit!
An Artboard in Illustrator works like a physical piece of paper on a desk. Similar to pages in Indesign CC, artboards can be different sizes and orientations and be arranged however suits your workflow. With the Artboard tool you can create multi-page documents.

Navigate Tools
Navigate tools let you set your focus on an area of the artwork. You can perform basic actions like zoom in or out, rotate the view, drag artwork, or add grids to work on the canvas.

Hand Tool
The Hand tool lets you navigate through the canvas and artboards in an Illustrator document.
Click the Hand tool or press H.
Drag in any direction to move the canvas around.
On your document, click H on the keyboard.
Try panning around your document!
What happens to the hand when you click and pull?
Press ctrl + 0 move the artboard back!H
Rotate View
The Rotate View tool lets you change the canvas view at any angle.
Click and hold the Hand tool and select the Rotate View tool or press Shift + H.
Drag the tool anywhere on the canvas to change its orientation.
To navigate between different angles, use the widget that appears when you rotate the canvas view.
On you document, Press SHIFT + H on the keyboard.
Try rotating to different angles around your document!

Zoom Tool
Magnify and reduce your view of artboards and the canvas with the Zoom tool.
Click the Zoom tool or press Z to select it.
Click the area you want to zoom in to one or more times, or drag to select an area.
To zoom out, hold Alt and click the area or press Ctrl + 0 (Windows), hold Opt and click the area or press Cmd + 0 (macOS).
On you document, click Z on the keyboard.
Click to Zoom in...
Hold the ALT key and click to zoom out!
