Lessons have been assigned to them based on their diagnostic test results both in Math and Reading. Within each lesson are brain break games. The district is pushing a goal of 45 minutes per week on Online Lessons in ELA and 45 minutes per week in Math to close the gaps found in the diagnostic. Math and ELA are providing some of that time during the week, but not all.

Get to know Photoshop!

What you NEED to know!!!!

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Adobe Photoshop

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Adobe Photoshop, computer application software used to edit and manipulate digital images. Photoshop was developed in 1987 by the American brothers Thomas and John Knoll, who sold the distribution license to Adobe Systems Incorporated in 1988.

HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED:  You will practice different tools and techniques and gradually show your success!

Transforming a selection

Transform an elliptical selection to precisely fit an oval area and use it to create a layer mask to reveal water in the center of a conference table.

We need to grab a file first!

Click the Ps Image on the left!

Left click the DOWNLOAD button on the top right

This will save the file to your Arts & Media folder!

Quick Tip! After you click the download button, notice on the top right corner the download should appear...simply click the file to open!

SAVE (as) YOUR DOCUMENT!

Shortcut: Shift + Ctrl + S

(or File: SAVE AS)

Save to YOUR COMPUTER!

Click the Save on Your Computer button

On the left click THIS PC

Select Desktop

Select Arts and Media Folder

Name the document:

"First Name Last Name TABLE"

Click SAVE

Create and transform an elliptical selection

Follow along!

First

Using the Eliptical Marquee tool

If you don't see it, right click this tool icon, then hover the cursor over and choose Elliptical Marquee from the flyout menu

Now:

Starting on the table near the left edge of the chair by the window, click and drag across the right side of the inner oval area.

Don't worry if the selection is not an exact fit to the oval area.

TIP: Hold the spacebar to reposition the selection as you create it!

Choose...

Choose Select>Transform Selection

This will enable you to change the shape, size and rotation of the selection

A bounding box should show up!

Control points

Drag on any control point to change the size of the selection. Shift-drag to move a point independently and fit the selection to the inside of the table.

Drag outside to rotate.

Press Enter to apply

Press Ctrl + S to SAVE!!! Do this often!

Inverse

Choose Select>Inverse

The Select>Inverse command swaps the selected and unselected areas. Everything in the image is now selected, except for the oval area in the middle of the table.

Creating Layer Mask

A layer mask that hides part of a layer offers more flexibility than erasing the pixels because it is non-destructive and allows you the ability to edit and improve the layer mask.

Click the Add Layer Mask Icon at the bottom of the layers panel to create a layer mask for the Table Layer.

Areas that are not selected will be hidden by the mask!

What happened? Can you now see water?

A selection can be turned into a layer mask, which lets you hide part of a layer non-destructively, without permanently changing what's on the layer

Beyond the lesson...

Now that we know how to use layers to adjust...

Select the WATER layer

Add a new adjustment layer

Change the water color from blue to red! (You have done this before!)

Press Ctrl + S to SAVE!!! Do this often!

Remember! Because we made adjustments to our layers our original photo remains intact!
