How to Draw an Ornament!

Using what we have learned!

Let's create some basic Christmas items!

First...

Let's work on the ORNAMENT layer!

TURN the ORNAMENT LAYER ON!

Turn ALL the other Layers OFF! 

Make sure you have selected the SANTA'S HAT layer

Use the Ellipse tool (L)

Hold the shift key down and make circle like shown in the image (left)




Change the fill color (you decide!)

Make sure the CIRCLE IS SELECTED with the SELECT tool.

Select the Draw Inside mode

For the band, use the Rectangle tool (M)

Before we start making our band, let's change to "DRAW INSIDE" mode

On the bottom of the toolbar there are 3 modes.

We need the Draw Inside on the right.


Tip: To toggle, press Shift D


Select the Draw Inside mode

Hover over the edge of the Circle

Click and pull to make a rectangle

Notice the rectangle only shows on the INSIDE of the circle







Before moving to the next circle, change the fill color (you choose!)


Press Ctrl + S to SAVE!!! Do this often!


Select the Draw Inside mode

Select the EllipseTool

Hold the Shift Key down and click and pull to make a 3 circles

Notice the circles only show on the INSIDE of the circle


Before moving to the next circle, change the fill color (you choose!)

Once you are done making the band and circles, press SHIFT + D to turn the draw mode back to NORMAL

Using the rectangle tool (M)

Make a rectangle at the top of the main circle

Pull on one of the corner widgets to round the edges

Fill with a brown or gold color









Right click the rectangle

Select ARRANGE>Send to Back


Select the EllipseTool

Hold the Shift Key down and click and pull to make a circle at the top of the rectangle


Before moving to the next circle, change the fill color to white or none

Right click the circle

Select ARRANGE>Send to Back

Group your shapes!

Select ALL (ctrl + A)

Press Ctrl + G to group the shapes!

Press Ctrl + S to SAVE!!! Do this often!

Select ALL (ctrl + A)

Press Ctrl + G to group the shapes!

Press Ctrl + S to SAVE!!! Do this often!


SHOW ME ON YOUR SCREEN!!

Do not close Illustrator until your work is verified!!!

Now...try these!
